• A key component of sustainable development is social sustainability. This means being sensitive to and supporting the needs and the culture of the local population.

The average life expectancy of the local population is only 56 years of age. Overall, the local people have a low per capital income and a very meagre standard of living.  In fact, 64% of the local population is dependent upon on state benefits for their survival.

The life expectancy among local residents is extremely low compared to an average of 72.5 years old across Brazil. This is partly due to a lack of advanced medical care and facilities for expectant mothers and those stricken by illnesses.

  • Ecocity and Ecoland Brasil are committed to serving the needs of the local population and to helping them become independent of state benefits. We will provide them education and training, housing, employment and medical facilities as follows:

    Education and Training:

A Hospitality School will be built and staffed to provide comprehensive training in catering and hotel management to Ecocity and the population of Ilha Grande and Parnaíba.

A school for local children will be built and subsidized so that the children of the area including street children and orphans, will have the benefit of free education, books and uniforms.

    Housing:

Ecocity will set aside an extensive area to build social housing within the city for local people, one that respects their culture and customs. This community will be designed with eco-friendly, locally sourced materials.

  • Medical Facilities:
It is envisioned that Ecocity will participate in the building of a world class hospital, giving local people access to medical care in a clean, safe and technologically advanced medical facility.

    Employment:
Ecocity Brasil is expected to create many thousands of jobs over the course of its development with priority for employment given to the residents of Parnaiba and Ilha Grande.
