A critical element in the design of Ecocity and Ecoland will be the conservation and preservation of the natural environment and the ecosystem. Ecocity’s spectacular site is world-renowned for its diverse eco-systems, such as pre-Amazonian forests, rolling sand dune formations and extensive mangrove forests along the riverbanks.
Around 60% of the Ecocity site is already environmentally protected.
· A forest recovery program will be developed for the protection of water-bordering river banks and pools against erosion, as well as eco-system recovery.
· Ecocity will also implement a program that will control and minimize negative effects on the surrounding dune areas, and will consolidate a master plan for environmental conservation.
Ecocity will include many natural habitat corridors that foster biodiversity and that provide residents immediate access to nature for recreational and educational purposes.
Unlike conventional master planning which parcels out land for buildings, roads, drains and infrastructure, eco-master planning gives precedence to green infrastructures such natural areas and open spaces to preserve the natural environment and encourage it to thrive.
